Alley’s House is proud to highlight our moms through the “Miss Independent” series. Each month we will feature one of our moms and talk about their journey to success.
Alicia is a 2008 graduate of Alley’s House and a mother to her son Anthony.
“I appreciate Alley’s House to this day for the way the program prepared me for my life goals.”
Through the GED program at Alley’s House, Alicia learned an abundance of skills that would benefit her future. The skills ranged from computer typing to professional etiquette, from parenting skills to how to seek and maintain healthy relationships. Along with the many other skills she learned, most importantly, she is thankful for the support Alley’s House gave when it came to her depression and self-esteem.
Alicia believes that with the help of Alley’s House, she was fully prepared for life after graduation. In fact, after graduating with her GED from Alley’s House, Alicia went on to attend Eastfield College. While at Eastfield, she was able to obtain her associates degree while working as a part-time employee and a full-time mom.
“My life is great! Anthony and I appreciate every second. We are surrounded by family and friends that support us and wish us nothing but the best in life. My dream is to give my son a wonderful life full of love and joy.”
With a new chapter of her life beginning, Alicia is most grateful for the opportunities and guidance that Alley’s House gave her. All of which has assisted in Alicia becoming the independent woman she is today.
To the current moms at Alley’s House, Alicia says, “Everyone’s journey is different, with some harder than others. But no matter what your situation is, just remember your values and everything that Alley’s house has taught you”.
