For weeks prior to the picnic all of the moms in the program were encouraged to nominate themselves or another mom in the program to be named Mother of the Year. They were also asked to write a short essay supporting their nomination. After the nominations came in, alley’s house staff and mentors discussed the nominations, taking circumstances that the other mom’s might not be aware of into consideration. Finally, Mother of the Year was chosen.
She shines brightly as a beacon of success through very difficult circumstances. She has faced many obstacles head-on without family support and remains dedicated to creating a thriving life for herself and her two children. After dropping out of the program, she returned determined and earned her GED in February. She has made admirable progress toward her goal of becoming a Probation Officer. She was taken under the wing of a current Probation Officer through connections she has made while at alley’s house. Next, she will begin community college in fall. We are so proud to name Keshawn our Mother of the Year!
