Mentors
alley's house is a member of the Metroplex Mentor Center. This is a coalition of local agencies with mentoring programs adhering to a level of standards and practices in sync with the Texas Governor's Initiative on Mentoring.

Our program is a one-to-one type mentoring program and is modeled after the Big Brothers Big Sisters Model. We match the teen moms participating in our program with a volunteer mentor from within the community. The mentor meets with the teen mom 6 hours per month for a one year period. The mentor works directly with her to assist her in accomplishing her Goal Plan and Life Skill Activities.

Steps to Becoming a Mentor

  1. Call 214.954.6400 to request a volunteer packet. Complete and return the necessary forms.
  2. The Program Director will process your paperwork which includes reference checking, a Criminal Background Check and a review of your application.
  3. The Program Director will schedule a personal interview with the potential mentor.
  4. alley's house will notify you to schedule your Mentor Orientation and Training Workshops.
  5. Once approval into the program is completed you will be notified.
  6. The matching process begins between the teen mother and the mentor. This process is the responsibility of the Program Director.
  7. Once the match is made, the Program Director will contact you regarding the specifics of the match. A meeting will be scheduled at this time to meet the teen mom and review the Teen Mom's Mentoring Plan.
