Meet Ashli

Ashli and her 6-month-old daughter Kassiddee started coming to alley's house in April. Ashli has been working towards her G.E.D. and is slated to take the exam on December 6. She says that because of the tutoring and one-on-one help she has received at alley's house, she feel prepared for the test.

Ashli also has a mentor, Zandy, through alley's house. Although she was just recently matched, Ashli is excited about the relationship and spending time with Zandy. Like most teens, Ashli loves to shop and go to movies and talk on the phone. She also enjoys cooking and works a full-time job.

Ashli is a young mom who is motivated. "I am going to move forward," she says. "I do not want to fall back into the category that everyone expects me to be in." After earning her G.E.D., her goal is to enroll in cosmetology school and in five years open her own shop. For Kassiddee, Ashli hopes that her child will one day be able to attend college, have lots of opportunities and be able to adapt well in diverse situations. "I want to make sure Kassiddee gets a lot of attention," says Ashli. "I will tell her about my own experiences so she won't go down the same road one day."

Ashli has advice for other teens, "Keep your head in the books and don't follow others. What you have right now may seem good, but there's always something better." Ashli's involvement with alley's house has had a major impact on her life already. "I thought I wasn't going to make it, but they helped me emotionally, mentally and even financially," she says. "I wish I could tell the world about alley's house. It's a great place."
