Meet Angela

Angela and her adorable 10-month-old son, Jaymond came to alley's house in March, after she was referred by a teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School. Since then, Angela has eagerly taken advantage of alley's house programs and services. She says that alley's house has taught her a lot about how to interact with people and how to play with her baby. Before alley's house she says she didn't know that you could play games with a baby that young, but now she says her son loves the creative games she plays using simple objects and making mud prints or playing with scotch tape. She is also learning how to budget and is proud of saving her own money to buy a cell phone.

Before coming to alley's house, Angela was really nrevouse about how she would be treated and if people wouldlike her, but she says everyone at alley's house put her at ease. She even has a mentor who helps her play with Jaymond, takes them to the parks & the movies, takes pictures with them and because her mentor is an "English genius," helps her with her English homework.

This 17 year-old, who will be graduating from high school in July, has lofty goals for herself. She plans on becoming a nurse because she likes to help people, and will enroll at El Centro Junior College in the fall. For her son, she hopes that he will finish school and have a great life.

Like other teenagers, Angela enjoys watching television, especially Lifetime movies and her favorite soap opera, "As the World Turns." She loves to read dramatic books like "The Da Vinci Code," "Anonymous" and "Sister Soldier." A native of Zambia, she loves to cook African food and says Jaymond eats it right up!
